Canadian Army in the Italian campaign. Last week, while I was in Calgary, Alberta, I was able to visit the PPCLI museum and see what they did in that campaign.

Let the gaming begin for Bolt Action

My son asked me to buy him some toy soldiers. So I got 4 boxes so that we can built our own Canadian and German armies from the Normandy campaign. All 4 boxes are from Revell Germany which I will add images to later once I return to Japan. So now that I'm back in Japan (April 30, 2014) here are the shots.   Once I can get some paint on these fellows, I'll be off to the races.

Revell German Mechanized Infantry (Panzergrenadiere) 1944

Revell (Matchbox) German Infantry WWII (have an original set back in storage)

Revell British/Canadian Infantry

Revell Scottish Infantry (another box this is the third, other two in storage.

1/144 German Afv round two

Further on from my earlier posting, I went to the used shop. By the time I got there, they only had a Hertzer and a Jagtiger left. However, I will use these with my Axis and Allies figures to do some gamming. I'll have to see if I can find some British/Canadian kits in Tokyo.

1/144 scale Sd.Kfz.7

This kit is produced by a Japanese toy company with the title World Tank Museum. About 12 years ago, this company made a series of AFV which you could buy at convience stores for around 450 yen or just under 5.00 Canadian. I snapped up a large amount of them and have several different models including Panzer IV, Panzer V, Panther, 88mm guns, Sherman Mk 4, Sherman Firefly, Tigers, T-34/76 and T-34/85. Imagine my surpise when I found that this company is making them again! However for the moment, they are concentrating on German viechles from 1940.

Included with each box is a small manga cartoon book for all those Japanese geeks who insist on having them. It's all in Japanese so I just have as a visual reference and if I ever want to actually learn to read it.

The interesting marketing gig for this is that the box artwork gives you a chance at three different models in three different colour schemes. There is also an instruction manual which is fairly straight forward. There is also a small piece of gum as well, though that is not important.
So I will plan on heading to the nearest used shop to pick up some more of the original series so that I can begin to fight battle from Grampie's war. 1/72 is still my perfered scale, but when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. All my 25mm-28mm is still gathering dust at my father's home now. Better then having them chewed on by mice at my friends barn! Though it was generous of him to let me use that barn when I had no other place for storage.

Test of Will - Canada in Korea - Part 1

Just outside what my Grandfather was in, this is what post war Canadians faced. Many of those who joined the Canadian Forces were either vets from WW2 or had grown up during the war. I began my teaching career in South Korea. I visited the Canadian memorial at Kapyong, and laid a wreath in memory of those who didn't come back, and to those who did come home, but had to deal with the trama of war.
