Halifax Rifles Monument

This Sherman tank nicknamed Hellfire, was previously posted outside the Halifax Armouries. It was in memory of The Halifax Rifles RCAC, which originally had been a militia regiment for the city of Halifax, but was converted to an Armored regiment for WW2.

It now sits in a holding yard on a Canadian military base due to the fact that it was vandalized by people opposed to the War in Afganistan and Iraq. This I find is a shame. I support people's right to protest, but defacing a monument to the men and women who fought and died for our country, so that they could have the right to protest I find disgusting. As far as I know, there are no plans to put this monument back.

Italy Later winter, 1943

Ian began to set up a battle for us. I decided to suprise him with an Airborne thrust into his flank.
The first attack by the Canadians into the German flank goes in

The main thrust goes into the German lines but is suffering heavy return fire

The first wave gets bogged down in the wood and in front of the house below

This house has been constantly fought over during the whole game. Each time the British and Canadians hit the house, they clear it, but are unable to occupy it, which the Germans simply keep pouring troops into it.
Over the course of a week, Ian and I have been playing this game. I have just thrown in the British 7th Armored division into the German rear.
So far, Ian has lost most of his German mortars, he has been relying on his mortars for artillery support, and has been successful in using his armor to smash back my infantry assualts. The front line areas have not been secured for the Allies. However, the Canadians have run out of armor and are using the last of their reserves.
The 7th Armored Division arrived to assist the Canadians and eventually became the only cohesive unit left.

Storm day means Axis and Allies

I'm playing a version which was published in 1992. I was so busy playing that I didnt have time to take shots. In any case, Ian was able to take me out within 3 turns. Ouch

51st Highland Division take on German

The Scottish push into another German frontier town. The German right has been fought over.

But the Scots have found street fighting to be tough going

The Germans begin to retake their town with house clearing and tank support. So far, the German heavy weapons have taken out the RA 25pdr and some of the recce elements which means the Scottish are now fighting blind.
